Ceramic Space Heaters

Ceramic space heaters are great economical heaters to use in your home. However, many people do not realize that they can actually purchase them in different sizes depending on what you want the ceramic space heater to do. If you are planning to heat up a large area then you will need a space heater which outputs at least 5,000 BTU.

Before you go out and purchase a new heater, keep in mind that a radiant heater will produce instant heat which will warm people and objects before it begins to heat the cold air around the heater; and a convection space heater will heat up the air around it before in heats up closer objects. These types of heaters are usually used in garages, warehouses, and even in greenhouses where heating the air first is more important than exposing plants to sudden direct heat. Radiant ceramic space heaters are great for keeping a few people and their pets warm in a short time; as the heater is great for quickly heating a room. The radiant heaters are also great for heating small spaces as well.

One of the most important things which many people over look is the fact that if their home is large and has high ceilings that it may take longer to heat the room. You should do what ever you think necessary to block off any drafts which may be coming from under a window sill or around the doors. In your home you should always perform a semi-annual preventive maintenance check and use a tube of weather proof chalking for filling in any cracks where cold air may be coming inside. You can install plastic strips above and beneath the doors to help block off the cold air and to also prevent any warm air from escaping.

Another good idea to help your space heater to do a good job in a room is, during the winter time or a cold day, it will help to close the blinds and if you have curtains you should also close them as well. This will also deter any drafts which may interfere with heating your home.  

Once you purchase your ceramic space heater do not just plug it in and turn it on. You should always read the manufactures guidelines which are in your owner's manual that comes in the box with a new heater. The owner's manual contains the instructions which explain how to get the best performance from your heater, as well as safety precautions which should be followed very carefully in order to prevent any unwanted accidents. There are important concerns such as-- you should never plug your ceramic space heater into an extension cord, as the extension cord tends to over heat near the plug and could cause an electrical fire. Always plug your heater directly into a good outlet that can carry the heaters current. It will also state that you should never leave your heater on while you are not home unless the heater came with a programmable thermostat. These safety features are for your protection, so be sure to adhere to them.

There are some models of ceramic space heaters which can be hung up to help keep small hands from getting burned. Also never stand right in front of the heater-- you could risk catching your clothes on fire without knowing it. If you follow the safety guidelines, you'll find that ceramic space heaters are great for your home.
